“Inverted Glory” takes second at CAAA Show

I entered 2 pieces at the Membership Show through my local art association.  The piece to the left of center is mine, also shown are the first and third place winners in this category.

Inverted Glory upload

I call this piece “Inverted Glory” because it was originally another piece with Glory in its name.  After living with it for a while, I decided that I didn’t like it as well as I had thought.  So, I began to add more layers of paint and collage.  When I finished the piece, I realized that it was now upside-down from the original piece, hence, “inverted”.  The three clay pieces hanging below the mesh are pieces from a woven clay cross that did not survive my rough handling in trying to get it into the kiln.  I like that they have found a new, beautiful life as a part of this piece.

There are many lovely works by various local artists, as well as a few pieces by the Show Judge, Alan Miner from Ruidoso, NM.  If you are in Carlsbad, NM between now and March 29, 2014, stop by the Carlsbad Museum and Art Center at 418 W Fox.  They are open from 10-5 Mon-Sat.
